ABOUT US
The Balkan Retreat is guest accommodation with a studio space in a wild garden. We can host courses, events and artist residencies throughout the year. When hosting courses and events we can provide homegrown, organic meals for participants. Our two ensuite apartments are also available for holiday rental.
Organise your event with us
With our accommodation, outdoor relaxing areas, orchard, 40 m/2 studio space and the forest and lake nearby, we are an ideal location for anything from yoga weekends, to theatre workshops and team building weekends to masterclasses.
Accommodation
We have two ensuite apartments with beds upstairs in a galleried loft. In the summer we have two additional spaces. In total we can comfortably accommodate 9 people. There is also space for tents.
Balkan Retreat Garden
Outside there is a roofed terrace with BBQ area, fire pit, hammocks, a fruit orchard with spaces to relax in nature and a permaculture garden and greenhouse where we grow our food.

OUR MISSION
Creative Retreat
Our mission is to provide a safe and inspiring space for people to work and create, affordably and without constraint; we try to do this in an authentic and personal way, with respect for nature and creativity.
Vivien and Kalki are actors, theatre-makers, writers and teachers. We understand the need for focus, flow and nourishment in creative work. The Balkan Retreat aims to hold and nurture you in this way.
Wild Retreat
Our garden is semi-wild in places and we encourage many “weeds” to grow in amongst the herbs, flowers, vegetables and trees. We deliberately don’t mow the lawn in places and heap branches and sticks to create space and refuge for wildlife.
We do this to protect native species and increase biodiversity of plants, fungi, and animals. These little acts of kindness helps Nature do her own work.
